Dear everyone,
Thanks very much for your coming and active participation at the event last Friday. We want to express our special gratitude to Dr. Hugh Busher and Dr. Alison Taysum from the School of Education, and Dr. Mark Rawlinson who is the Academic Director of the College of Arts, Humanities and Law; thanks for their coming and helpful comments.
This time the event was focused on the theme of ‘New Media and Collaborative Research’; and we exchanged some ideas about how to build a highly-efficient platform to improve our collaborative study and research environment with the use of new media technologies, such as Web 2.0 or SNSs. Actually, just like most of us have agreed, even though it is true that the new media has played an increasingly important role in facilitating the improvement of ‘knowledge exchange’, it is still people that are the key agents to drive the overall progress for the ‘environment construction’. Therefore, in that sense, ‘to make use of the new media’ should not be taken as the final objective of the change; rather, we should always think about the rationale why people want to make use of the media and how they want to do that. And this is also, I think, one of the most essential things for every one of us to take into consideration before we really take any further action to work on the new collaborative environment at universities in the digital age.
At last, I’d like to say ‘thank you’ to Emma Kimberley and her Graduate School Reading Room; and thanks for her great effort in support of the event. Here in the follow-up, I’m attaching you the links to Emma’s PPT for her presentation along with Howard’s video. Finally I wish you all have a fantastic Christmas and a bright New Year! I’ll see you all in 2010!
